A fire outbreak has destroyed a residential building in Umunze, located in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at about 2 pm in Lomu community, where the fire started in one apartment before spreading to other parts of the building.
Residents attempted to contain the fire before the arrival of emergency responders, but the flames had already intensified.
No Casualties, Properties Lost
Although no lives were lost in the incident, several valuable properties were destroyed.
Eyewitnesses said thick smoke filled the building as the fire spread rapidly across adjoining rooms.
A resident explained that efforts were made to control the situation, but the fire continued to escalate before firefighters arrived.
Cause Linked to Power Surge
Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have been caused by a power surge following the restoration of electricity in the area.
Residents noted that electrical faults often occur when power supply is suddenly restored, increasing the risk of fire outbreaks.
Fire Service Responds
The Anambra State Fire Service confirmed that its personnel responded promptly to a distress call and successfully contained the fire.
According to the agency, the fire affected the main building within the compound but did not spread to nearby structures.
Officials stated that firefighters worked for several hours to bring the situation under control.
Safety Advisory Issued
Following the incident, authorities advised residents to ensure proper electrical installations in their homes.
They also recommended the use of surge protectors and regular maintenance of electrical systems to prevent future occurrences.
