The governorship candidate outlines proposals on electricity, housing, taxation, flooding, transportation and inclusive governance.
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Laja Adeoye, has outlined his “Atunto Eko 1.0” agenda, which he says is designed to reform the state’s economy and governance ahead of the 2027 election.
In an interview, Adeoye discussed his proposals for independent power projects, affordable housing, flood control, transportation, taxation, security and public participation in governance.
He also addressed the indigene and non-indigene question, opposition cooperation and his support for APM presidential candidate Seyi Makinde.
Adeoye Proposes Independent Power Projects
Adeoye said his administration would establish independent power projects across Lagos’ five divisions, which he referred to as the IBILE divisions.
He also proposed an independent electricity grid to distribute power to homes across the state.
According to him, improved electricity supply would support businesses, attract investment and reduce the number of companies leaving Lagos because of power challenges.
He said the government would also invest in technology sectors, including blockchain, artificial intelligence and robotics.
Candidate Promises Affordable Housing
Adeoye proposed the construction of affordable housing units in areas including Epe, Badagry and Ikorodu.
He said the housing projects would include markets, stalls and other facilities to create economic opportunities around residential communities.
His proposal aims to reduce pressure on Lagos’ city centre while allowing residents to live closer to employment and commercial opportunities.
Adeoye also said his administration would address flooding through infrastructure such as retaining walls, underground tunnels and improved water-discharge systems.
APM Candidate Promises Tax Reform
On taxation, Adeoye said his administration would reduce and streamline taxes rather than increase the burden on businesses.
He alleged that some residents and businesses currently pay multiple taxes for similar activities.
The candidate said his government would seek to eliminate duplication, track businesses and encourage more enterprises to enter the tax system.
He argued that businesses would be more willing to pay taxes when they experience an easier operating environment.
Adeoye Advocates Public Participation
Adeoye criticised what he described as a governance system in which decisions are made without sufficient public input.
He proposed town hall meetings before the annual budget process, allowing residents across Lagos’ senatorial districts and local government areas to identify their most pressing needs.
According to him, students, traditional rulers, civil society organisations and other stakeholders would participate in discussions on infrastructure, education, flooding and other priorities.
He also promised to use public-private partnerships to support education, scholarships and economic development.
Candidate Addresses Indigene and Non-Indigene Debate
Adeoye described Lagos as a cosmopolitan and metropolitan city, saying residents from different ethnic backgrounds should have opportunities to thrive.
He said his proposed administration would not discriminate against people based on their origins.
However, he also pledged to deliberately support indigenous Lagosians through empowerment and economic opportunities.
Adeoye said the government should help residents compete effectively rather than allow them to feel threatened by people moving into the state.
Opposition Collaboration Remains Under Discussion
On possible cooperation among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 election, Adeoye said discussions were ongoing following a political summit in Oyo State.
He said any potential collaboration should consider competency, capacity and character.
Adeoye also expressed support for Seyi Makinde’s presidential aspiration, citing what he described as Makinde’s leadership record in Oyo State and contributions to national discussions.
His comments represent the APM candidate’s stated political positions and campaign proposals. The feasibility, funding and implementation of the proposals would depend on future policy decisions and available resources.
