Pension fund assets under Nigeria’s Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) rose to ₦31.80 trillion as of August 31, 2026, according to the National Pension Commission (PenCom).
The unaudited monthly pension industry report released by PenCom on Tuesday showed that pension assets increased by ₦289.40 billion from the ₦31.51 trillion recorded at the end of July.
The latest increase represents a 0.92 per cent growth in the total net asset value of pension funds during the month.
PenCom also reported that total Retirement Savings Account (RSA) membership stood at 11,391,008 as of August.
Federal Government Securities Dominate Investments
The report showed that pension fund investments remained concentrated in federal government securities, ordinary shares, money market instruments and corporate debt securities.
Federal government securities accounted for ₦17.80 trillion, making them the largest investment category.
Domestic ordinary shares followed with ₦6.32 trillion, while investments in foreign ordinary shares stood at ₦280.66 billion.
The pension industry also held ₦3.27 trillion in money market instruments, including fixed deposits, bank acceptances, commercial papers and other eligible investments.
Pension Funds Hold Billions in Infrastructure, Real Estate
Corporate debt securities accounted for ₦2.21 trillion of pension fund investments, while mutual funds stood at ₦326.64 billion.
PenCom reported that pension fund investments in infrastructure funds reached ₦344.62 billion.
Real estate investments stood at ₦132.81 billion, while private equity investments accounted for ₦267.01 billion.
Cash and other assets stood at ₦462.42 billion.
The latest figures provide an update on the size and investment composition of pension funds managed under Nigeria’s CPS.
