Lafarge Africa Plc has unveiled EcoCrete, a new Ready-mix concrete designed to reduce carbon emissions and promote greener construction practices in Nigeria.

The innovative product is said to lower carbon dioxide emissions by at least 20 percent compared to traditional CEM I concrete, while still offering high durability and consistent performance.

Speaking on the launch, the company’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, noted that EcoCrete reflects Lafarge Africa’s long-term goal of supporting sustainable development in the country’s building industry.

He explained that the product gives builders and developers a reliable alternative that aligns with Nigeria’s climate goals and global calls for reduced carbon footprints in construction.

The firm’s Head of Aggregates and Ready-mix, Derek Williamson, added that EcoCrete is versatile enough for a wide range of uses, including residential projects, commercial properties, roads and major infrastructure works.

He stressed that while the product helps in reducing environmental impact, it also delivers dependable quality required for both small-scale and large-scale projects.

EcoCrete follows the earlier introduction of EcoPlanet Unicem and EcoPlanet Elephant cement, launched in 2024 and 2025, as part of Lafarge Africa’s efforts to provide sustainable alternatives across its product line.

According to the company’s Head of Innovation and New Product Development, Emmanuel Ilaboya, the new concrete goes beyond being a building material it is a climate-smart solution created to address pressing environmental concerns.

He emphasized that the company remains committed to reshaping the Nigerian construction landscape with practical, low-carbon options that benefit both the industry and the environment.

Through EcoCrete, Lafarge Africa strengthens its role as a leader in sustainable building solutions, aligning with Holcim’s global vision of building progress for people and the planet.
