A devastating fire has razed 201 shops containing chemicals used for cocoa farming on Lagos Line in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Mr. Cosmas Itaka, a senior official of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, confirmed the incident, stating that the fire is believed to have started after 10pm on Monday when the shop owners had left for home.

Kingsley Agim, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, stated, “We have not determined the cause of the fire, but we estimate the value of the goods, including cocoa chemicals, destroyed to be around N800 million.”
