The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has sealed a residential building in the Agbo-Oba area of Ilorin following confirmed violations of environmental safety regulations.
The agency said the building was shut down due to the illegal disposal of human waste mixed with sand along a public roadside—an act deemed dangerous to public health and contrary to the state’s sanitation laws.
The enforcement, which took place on Monday, was led by KWEPA’s Environmental Task Force under the supervision of Alhaji Yinusa Jidah. The operation aligns with the agency’s broader mandate to ensure a clean and disease-free environment across the state.
Speaking on the development, KWEPA’s General Manager, Jide Aina, emphasized that the move was not targeted at any individual but aimed at correcting environmental infractions and preventing potential outbreaks of disease.
“Our duty is to safeguard public health by ensuring that all residents observe proper sanitation and waste disposal practices,” Aina said in a statement released by the agency’s press secretary, Aliyu Amode. “Environmental protection is a shared responsibility, and we urge residents to cooperate by maintaining clean surroundings and reporting infractions.”
The agency further warned that failure to adhere to proper sanitation standards, especially in densely populated areas, would attract strict penalties. Aina noted that KWEPA remains committed to proactive monitoring and enforcement efforts to uphold environmental regulations across the state.
KWEPA also appealed to the general public to respect existing environmental protection laws to help promote sustainable and healthy living conditions.
This the latest enforcement brings to at least five the number of properties sealed in the Agbo-Oba and Kuntu areas of Ilorin since January 2025 over similar environmental infractions.
