Makinde Rolls Out Multi-Billion Naira Projects in Final Stretch of Tenure

Governor Seyi Makinde is not slowing down as his administration enters its final phase, approving ₦63.4 billion to completely transform the Oyo State Government House.

The massive upgrade comes after years of the Governor and his deputy avoiding the official residence, which has now been deemed unbefitting for state leaders. Plans are also in motion to complete the long-delayed banquet hall in time for Oyo’s 50th anniversary next year.

Adding to the spending wave, the state will inject ₦131.7 million into landscaping by hiring professional gardeners to maintain the grounds of the upgraded complex.

On another front, Oyo is stepping in to enhance aviation safety and capacity by spending ₦14.3 billion on new Instrument Landing Systems for the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, a move prompted by damage to the previous equipment installed by the federal government.

The administration is also pushing ahead with its agricultural and international trade goals, approving the first phase of a service agreement for an international agro-food market in Ijaiye. The €2 million project is backed by the African Development Bank in partnership with French firm Semmaris, aiming to position Oyo as a key player in fresh produce export.

Preparations are also underway for the 2025 Oyo State International Tourism Summit, while ₦130 million has been approved for the New Towns and Cities Development Authority to address urban congestion and limit slum development.

To ensure these ambitious projects stay funded and on schedule, the state’s 2025 supplementary budget has been expanded by a significant ₦270.8 billion, signaling a determined finish to Makinde’s development agenda.
