The Ekiti State Government has commenced a major renovation and infrastructural upgrade of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Emure-Ise-Orun.
The development follows Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s pledge to improve the facility and provide better conditions for corps members serving in the state.
The Commissioner for Youth Development, Gold Adedayo, disclosed this on Wednesday during an inspection of ongoing projects at the camp.
According to Adedayo, 19 projects are currently being executed across the facility.
He said the renovation demonstrated the Oyebanji administration’s commitment to youth development and would significantly transform the camp.
“The upgrade, upon completion, will transform the camp into one of the best NYSC orientation facilities in the country,” Adedayo said.
Projects Underway
The commissioner inspected several ongoing projects during the tour.
They include the gatehouse, registration centre, five male hostels, seven female hostels, dining section, kitchen, stores and perimeter fence.
The NYSC state coordinator’s lodge is also among the facilities undergoing renovation.
Adedayo expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, commending contractors for their commitment to the project schedule.
He said the projects would give the camp a modern outlook and create a more conducive environment for corps members during orientation programmes.
Ekiti Reveals Two-Month Completion Target
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Projects, Olubunmi Talabi, said the projects were being executed simultaneously under his bureau’s supervision.
Talabi said the renovation was expected to be completed within the timeframe set by the governor.
He added that solar lighting solutions would be installed across the camp to improve illumination, security and the experience of corps members and camp officials.
According to him, local contractors and artisans were engaged as part of the state government’s local content policy.
Talabi expressed optimism that the projects would be completed within two months.
He said the progress recorded so far indicated that the renovation would be delivered to the satisfaction of stakeholders.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Adeola Ige, recalled the challenges previously faced by the camp and commended Governor Oyebanji for intervening.
Ige said the renovation would have a significant impact on the experience of corps members using the facility.
