The Kaduna State Police Command has summoned former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and six senior members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.
The summons, contained in a letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (CID), Uzairu Abdullahi, directed the ADC state chairman to produce the individuals at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8.
Those invited include El-Rufai, Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (a.k.a. “30”), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (a.k.a. “Mikiya”). The police said the step was part of ongoing investigations and efforts to maintain law and order.
ADC Secretariat Sealed
Earlier on Thursday, operatives sealed the ADC’s state secretariat on Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna, just hours before a planned visit by the party’s North-West leadership. The visit was intended to sympathize with members allegedly attacked by political thugs the previous week.
El-Rufai Reacts
Speaking at a press briefing at his Kaduna residence, El-Rufai condemned the police’s actions, calling them unconstitutional. He said the police claimed a court order barred the ADC gathering, but no such order had been shown or properly served.
“We have not seen the court order. It has not been properly served to us. Even if there is a court order, there is a legal process to serve it, and it has not been followed,” El-Rufai said.
He added that the ADC leadership complied with the directive to avoid confrontation but warned that legal action was imminent.
“As responsible leaders, we decided to comply even though we have not seen the order. But this will not end here. We will challenge it up to the Supreme Court,” he declared.
Political Tension Deepens
The development has further heightened political tension in Kaduna, with the opposition ADC accusing authorities of attempts to stifle its activities. The police, however, insist their actions are in line with maintaining public peace and investigating credible complaints.
