Two Killed, One Injured as Kwara Hotel Fence Collapses

A routine day turned deadly in Ilorin’s GRA on Tuesday afternoon when a portion of the old perimeter fence at the historic Kwara Hotels suddenly collapsed, killing two construction workers and leaving a third severely injured.

The workers were carrying out renovations as part of the state government’s ongoing infrastructure upgrade when the tragedy struck.

Eyewitnesses recounted how the men were working close to the aging structure when it suddenly crumbled, burying them under the debris. Emergency responders and bystanders rushed the victims to a private hospital on Unity Road, but medical staff confirmed that two could not survive the trauma. The third is currently battling for his life in intensive care.

Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, spokesperson for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, confirmed the incident on local radio, calling it a deeply saddening development.

He explained that the collapse was part of the structure already undergoing renovation, and that despite swift intervention, only one of the three affected workers made it through. Identities of the victims were withheld, though families of the deceased have reportedly been informed.

The incident has cast a shadow over the refurbishment of one of Kwara’s most prominent landmarks, raising fresh concerns about construction site safety and the handling of aging infrastructure in the state.
