The Lagos State Government has released a traffic diversion plan ahead of a 110-day rehabilitation of the Ogudu/Ifako Bridge. The long-anticipated repairs, which had previously been postponed, are now scheduled to begin on June 28 and conclude on October 15, according to the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Osiyemi said the repair works would be executed in eight phases across both lanes of the bridge.

The first four phases, covering Ogudu/Ifako Bridge inbound Alapere, will span from June 28 to August 16. The remaining four phases, focusing on Ogudu/Ifako inbound Oworonshoki, will follow from August 16 to October 5.

To manage the expected traffic disruption, the government has announced alternative routes for motorists:

For Phase 1: Commuters heading from Iyana Oworo are advised to use the Gbagada corridor to Anthony, linking up with Ikorodu Road for onward journeys.

For Phase 2: Drivers from the Eko Bridge axis should take Funsho Williams Avenue to connect with Ikorodu Road.

In addition, one lane near the construction zone—50 metres before and after the work area—will remain open to ease congestion.

The commissioner assured road users that officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed along key points to control flow, guide commuters, and reduce delays.

“We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but it is necessary to ensure the safety and durability of our infrastructure,” Osiyemi said, appealing for patience and cooperation from motorists.

The repair of the Ogudu/Ifako Bridge is part of the state’s broader infrastructure renewal efforts aimed at improving road safety and connectivity across Lagos.
