Fear has gripped communities in Niger State following two violent attacks that left 24 residents abducted and a blind man brutally mutilated in Erena Local Government Area.
The latest assault happened on Wednesday in Palaita community, where armed bandits stormed a farmland while labourers were harvesting crops. Witnesses say the attackers rounded up the workers at gunpoint and marched all 24 of them into the forest.
Among the victims is a heavily pregnant woman, whose condition has intensified community anxiety.
In another attack within the same council area, bandits reportedly cut off the arm of a blind resident after he allegedly failed to “cooperate” with their demands.
The shocking brutality has left residents terrified and unsure of what may come next.
Locals say the repeated invasions have deepened fear across neighbouring communities, with many calling for urgent government action to stop the growing wave of insecurity.
