The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has committed to completing all ongoing housing projects in 2026, with a particular focus on the high-profile Renewed Hope Housing Projects. This move underscores the administration’s dedication to improving access to affordable and quality housing for Nigerians.

Minister of Housing, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, made the announcement during an expanded management meeting with the ministry’s department heads. The meeting reviewed the Ministry’s performance in 2025 and presented its work plan for the upcoming year. Dangiwa emphasized that 2026 will be a pivotal year for the Ministry’s success.

“This year is not just another calendar cycle; it is our defining, decisive year,” said Dangiwa. “In 2026, Nigerians will look back and ask: ‘What has the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development achieved?'”

Despite facing funding constraints in 2025, Dangiwa highlighted that the Ministry still managed to deliver on several critical initiatives. These included key reforms in land administration and the development of Renewed Hope Cities in Karsana, Abuja, Kano, and Lagos—projects that are expected to be commissioned soon.

Dangiwa urged staff to increase their efforts in 2026, stating, “We’ve made remarkable progress, even under financial constraints. With adequate funding, we can surpass these achievements this year.”

The Minister also revealed that the Federal Government has pledged to address funding shortfalls and settle any outstanding liabilities in 2026, ensuring that projects remain on track.

To achieve this, Dangiwa called on the Directors of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) and Public Buildings departments to intensify monitoring efforts at construction sites. He stressed that contractors must be given clear timelines and held accountable for their work.

“We must ensure that contractors return to site and meet the specified deadlines. Close supervision from the controllers will be crucial in maintaining the pace of progress,” he added.

The Minister also announced that three additional Renewed Hope Cities—Maiduguri, Enugu, and Port Harcourt—will be added to the ongoing projects in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano. This expansion will significantly increase the scope of the administration’s housing initiative.

In his remarks, Permanent Secretary Dr. Shuaib Belgore reiterated the need for the PPP and Public Buildings departments to meet their targets. He assured staff that the Ministry would provide the necessary resources and support to achieve these objectives.

“We will also deploy extensive publicity campaigns to highlight the successes of these projects as part of the administration’s achievements in 2026,” Dr. Belgore added, emphasizing the public’s eagerness to see improvements in housing delivery.

As the Ministry prepares for a transformative year, Dangiwa called for unity and collaboration among staff, stressing the importance of their contributions to the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda. By consolidating on past successes, the Ministry aims to leave a lasting legacy that will benefit Nigerians for years to come.
