The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing the housing shortfall in the state this year, promising the delivery of additional residential units across the region.

The assurance came from the Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, during an appraisal of the ministry’s 2025 activities. He highlighted the successful completion and commissioning of the Akinsanya Sunny Ajose and Abraham Adesanya Housing Schemes, Parcels A and B.

Akinderu-Fatai stressed that timely completion of ongoing housing projects remains a priority, in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision for 2026. He urged project teams and departmental heads to maintain proper planning, quality standards, and excellence in execution across all sites.

“We must collectively intensify our efforts to ensure that Sangotedo Phase II, Egan-Igando Clusters II and III, Ibeshe Phase II, and all joint venture housing projects are completed and ready for commissioning by Mr. Governor,” he said.

The Commissioner also highlighted the importance of collaboration with private developers and financial institutions to ensure smooth implementation of housing initiatives under the THEMES Plus development agenda.

Speaking alongside him, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Abdulhafis Toriola, emphasised core public service values such as diligence, fairness, and integrity, urging staff to approach duties with commitment and purpose. He noted that sustained effort, professionalism, and excellence remain central to achieving success.

Toriola added that the ministry’s New Year prayer session reinforced a renewed commitment to expand access to decent, safe, affordable, and sustainable housing for Lagos residents. He also disclosed plans to tackle the growing issue of abandoned buildings, using existing legal frameworks to facilitate their completion—a move expected to increase housing supply, enhance urban safety, and improve the cityscape.

The Permanent Secretary recalled that the Sanwo-Olu administration has delivered over 12,000 housing units to beneficiaries across Lagos within the past six years.
