A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Tunde Lemo, has formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

Lemo made the declaration on Wednesday during the ward congress of the All Progressives Congress in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, signalling his entry into what is expected to be a competitive race ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Focus on Grassroots Development

Speaking at Ward 12, Ita-Agemo, Isale-Igbein, Lemo said his ambition is anchored on accelerating grassroots development and unlocking Ogun State’s agricultural potential.

According to him, the state possesses vast arable land and human capital that, if properly harnessed, could stimulate job creation and economic growth.

He pledged inclusive governance and reaffirmed his loyalty to the ruling party, assuring party faithful of his commitment to unity and internal cohesion.

Party Unity and National Policies

Lemo attributed the peaceful conduct of the ward congress to what he described as the stabilising influence of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said the orderly exercise demonstrated the APC’s internal strength and organisational discipline in Ogun State.

“I don’t want to canvass personal position here, but my presence today underscores that APC remains a united family. There is no division; members are strong and committed,” he said.

While acknowledging his interest in the 2027 race, Lemo noted that the political process would ultimately determine the outcome.

“Yes, I have my eyes on 2027 like others, but everything is in God’s hands,” he added.

Commendation for Incumbent Administration

The former CBN executive also commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for ongoing development projects, particularly the Agro-Cargo Airport initiative, which recently secured approval to commence commercial flight operations.

Political observers note that Lemo’s entry adds a technocratic profile to the emerging contest, potentially reshaping internal party dynamics ahead of the primaries.

The 2027 Ogun governorship election is expected to draw several aspirants as parties begin early positioning ahead of the national electoral timetable.
