The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
FG Commends Nigerian Workers
Tunji-Ojo praised Nigerian workers for their resilience, dedication, and commitment to national development, noting that their contributions remain central to the country’s economic growth and stability.
He emphasised that the labour force continues to play a critical role in driving productivity across key sectors of the economy.
Call for Patriotism and Productivity
The minister urged workers to remain patriotic and committed to their duties, stressing the importance of hard work in achieving sustainable national development.
He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and ensuring a secure environment that supports economic progress.
Message of Unity and Peace
Beyond the celebration, Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the value of unity, discipline, and collective responsibility in nation-building.
He encouraged citizens to remain law-abiding and peaceful as the country marks the annual workers’ celebration.
