Plateau Gives Jos South Households Seven Days to Provide Functional Toilets

Households without working toilets in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State face prosecution unless they comply within seven days of receiving final notices.

The Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) has begun serving the notices, its Director-General, Samuel Nathaniel Dapiya, said.

He explained that enforcement follows community consultations, sanitation education and assistance under the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH) programme.

The agency met community leaders and household representatives to encourage compliance. It also built toilets and improved existing facilities for vulnerable households where needs were identified.

Despite those interventions, Dapiya said some homes still lacked functional facilities.

Affected households must provide working toilets within seven days from the date their notice is served. Those remaining non-compliant will face prosecution, he said, urging residents to act before enforcement begins.
