As part of proactive measures to ensure public safety during the upcoming holiday season, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the nationwide deployment of over 28,000 operatives.

The deployment, which spans all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, was ordered by the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Audi. In a statement released on Wednesday by the NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, the Corps outlined its strategy to safeguard national infrastructure and protect citizens during the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

The operatives include members of specialised units such as the Intelligence Directorate, Counter Terrorism Unit, Quick Response Tactical Team, Special Female Squad, and the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad. Other units such as the Mining Marshals and Special Weapons and Tactics team are also being mobilised to critical locations.

During a high-level meeting with senior officers, state commandants, and heads of formations, Dr. Audi emphasised the importance of intelligence-led operations, urging the adoption of community-based strategies to preempt threats. He cautioned against potential spikes in criminal activities during the festive period and called for vigilance.

“No agency can combat insecurity alone,” Audi remarked. “We must collaborate effectively with other security outfits and engage the public to strengthen our information-sharing mechanisms.”

He directed NSCDC formations nationwide to reinforce cooperation with sister agencies and local communities, citing the need for a united front against challenges such as banditry, insurgency, vandalism, and illegal activities in sensitive sectors.

The Commandant General also appealed to private security practitioners to assist by sharing timely intelligence, especially during emergency situations, to strengthen the overall security architecture of the country.

With the high volume of travel and gatherings expected during the celebrations, authorities are urging citizens to remain alert and to report any suspicious activities through designated security hotlines.
