The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast dust haze conditions across several northern states and isolated thunderstorms in parts of the southern region on Friday, January 30, 2026.

According to NiMet’s Daily Weather Outlook released on Thursday, moderate dust haze is expected in parts of Yobe, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa and northern Bauchi states during the morning hours, with horizontal visibility ranging between two and five kilometres.

The agency added that other parts of the northern region would experience slight dust haze in the morning, with the condition expected to persist through the afternoon and evening.

“Moderate to slight dust haze is expected to prevail across the northern region throughout the day,” NiMet said.

For the North-Central states, the agency predicted slight dust haze during the morning, which is expected to continue into the afternoon and evening hours.

In the southern part of the country, NiMet forecast generally sunny conditions with patches of cloud during the morning.

It noted that there are slim chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.

“Other areas in the South are expected to experience sunny skies with few patches of cloud,” the agency stated.

NiMet warned that the dust haze could reduce visibility, particularly during the early morning hours, and advised motorists to exercise caution while driving.

The agency also urged people with respiratory conditions to take necessary precautions due to the dusty atmosphere.

Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather information from NiMet to support safe and efficient flight operations.

NiMet reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely and accurate weather information to help the public and critical sectors of the economy plan effectively.
