The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has commenced the development of a 213-unit housing estate along the Wasa Expressway in Abuja, reaffirming its commitment to expanding access to affordable housing and delivering projects on schedule.

The project, named FHA Green City Estate, was officially flagged off on Wednesday during a groundbreaking ceremony attended by government officials, developers and stakeholders in the housing sector.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the FHA, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, assured prospective homeowners that the authority had strengthened its project execution framework to eliminate delays and abandoned housing schemes.

Represented by the Executive Director of Estate Services, Arch. Nya-Etok Ezekiel, Ojo said the estate is being developed in partnership with Greenpasture Homes Limited and will feature a mix of residential units designed to meet modern housing needs.

According to him, the estate will comprise 80 two-bedroom flats, 56 three-bedroom flats, 35 three-bedroom terrace duplexes and 45 four-bedroom terrace duplexes.

He noted that the housing units are designed with a focus on comfort, security, functionality and environmental sustainability.

“Upon completion, this estate will stand as a model residential community while giving more Nigerians the opportunity to own decent homes,” Ojo said.

He explained that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which identifies affordable housing as a key component of national development and economic growth.

The FHA boss described the partnership with Greenpasture Homes Limited as a demonstration of the effectiveness of public-private collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit.

Ojo recalled that both organisations recently flagged off another 200-unit housing project in Ofada, Ogun State, adding that the collaboration is helping to accelerate housing delivery across the country.

He further disclosed that the Authority has secured land in 28 states for new housing developments and has commenced procurement and construction activities in several locations, including Umuahia, Uyo and Kaduna.

Also speaking, the President and Chairman of Council of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), HRM Oba Akintoye Adeoye, described the FHA Green City Estate as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s housing sector.

Adeoye said the project highlights the importance of effective partnerships between government agencies and private developers in tackling the country’s housing challenges.

He reaffirmed REDAN’s commitment to supporting policies that encourage affordable housing delivery, improve access to housing finance and create a more conducive environment for real estate investment.

The FHA Green City Estate is expected to contribute to efforts aimed at reducing Nigeria’s housing deficit while providing quality and affordable homes for citizens.
