In a daring assault, a heavily armed gang of bandits, equipped with sophisticated weapons, including AK-47 rifles, targeted a joint military camp at Nahuta village in the Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina. The attack unfolded around 11:30 pm on Sunday, January 14, according to reports from Channels TV.
Details of the incident were revealed by a security source from the camp to Channels Television on Monday. The assailants, wielding superior firepower, wreaked havoc by destroying vehicles and valuable assets during the assault. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the attack, as the military personnel stationed at the camp successfully repelled the bandits despite being outnumbered.
“The bandits outweighed us and invaded the camp where they set ablaze our vehicles and property because there was no reinforcement throughout the encounter,” the source explained.
Following the assault on the military camp, the bandits extended their rampage to Nahuta town. Shops were burgled, houses were broken into, and the perpetrators made off with properties and domestic animals. The estimated value of the looted items runs into millions of naira.
As of the time of this report, security agencies have not issued an official statement regarding the recent bandit attack in the North-Western state. The audacious nature of the attack raises concerns about the security situation in the region, and residents await updates from authorities on measures being taken to address the menace posed by these criminal elements.
