The Kano State Ministry of Education has announced the commencement of the Eid-el-Kabir holiday for all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the ministry, Misbahu Yakasai.
According to the statement, boarding school students are expected to begin their holiday on Saturday, May 23, 2026, and resume academic activities on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Day school students, however, will proceed on the Sallah break earlier, beginning from Friday, May 22, 2026, with classes scheduled to resume on Monday, June 1, 2026.
The ministry advised parents and guardians of students in boarding schools to adhere strictly to the approved schedule by ensuring their children are picked up and returned on the designated dates.
It stated that timely compliance would help maintain smooth academic activities and proper school administration after the holiday period.
“Parents and guardians of students in boarding schools are advised to pick up their children on the approved closing date, Saturday, May 23, 2026, and ensure their timely return on the resumption date,” the statement read.
The Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, extended Eid-el-Kabir greetings to students, teachers, parents and members of the education community.
He wished residents a peaceful, joyful and memorable Sallah celebration.
The holiday announcement comes as preparations intensify nationwide for the Eid-el-Kabir festivities, one of the major celebrations observed by Muslims across Nigeria and other parts of the world.
