… Annual event honours top contributors to housing and construction across Africa

The Africa Housing Awards (AHA) has continued to cement its reputation as the most prestigious recognition platform within Nigeria’s housing and construction industry.

Organized annually by the Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN), a pioneer non-governmental organization promoting housing development and advocacy, the awards celebrate individuals and institutions that have made outstanding contributions to the growth and transformation of the housing sector.

Held at the end of every year, the Africa Housing Awards serves as a platform to reward, recognize, and honour stakeholders who have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and commitment to advancing the cause of affordable housing in Nigeria and across Africa. The event enjoys strong media support from housing-friendly platforms, including Housing TV Africa, Housing Development Programme on AIT and Africa Housing News, among others.

According to the organizers, each edition of the awards is anchored on transparency, merit, and professionalism. The panel of adjudicators, which includes representatives of major professional bodies in the built environment, ensures that winners emerge solely based on merit and measurable impact.

Since its inception, the AHA has become a source of pride for industry stakeholders from developers and investors to public officials and advocacy groups. The event, now in its seventh edition, has recognized several notable figures such as the current Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, former Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola, former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and former Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State, among many others, for their exceptional contributions to housing development in Nigeria.

The awards not only celebrate achievements but also serve as a rallying point for dialogue, networking, and collaboration among key players in the housing and construction industry. Each ceremony provides an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange ideas and forge partnerships toward advancing affordable and sustainable housing solutions.

What makes the Africa Housing Awards particularly distinctive is its public voting system. Nominees are thoroughly screened and selected based on site visits, verified projects, and measurable performance before being presented for public voting ensuring that every award is earned, not influenced.

At its core, the Africa Housing Awards embodies the mission of HDAN: to promote a culture of excellence, ethical practices, and innovation in the housing and construction sector. Beyond recognition, the initiative has evolved into a movement that fosters healthy competition, encourages affordable housing delivery, and inspires new ideas to address the challenges facing Nigeria’s housing landscape.

As anticipation builds for the seventh edition is scheduled for the 10th of December, 2025 at the prestigious Fraser Suites Abuja in Nigeria, the Africa Housing Awards continues to stand as a symbol of credibility and progress, uniting visionaries, policymakers, and professionals who share a common goal making housing accessible, sustainable, and inclusive for all.
